The piles and fissure diet chart, Gujarati kitchen edition.

Soft stool is half the treatment. This chart uses food already in a Gujarati vegetarian kitchen. Print it, stick it on the fridge, and follow it for at least 6 weeks.

Quick answerFor piles and fissure, eat fibre at every meal (fruit, vegetables, whole grains, dal), drink 2.5–3 litres of water a day unless your doctor limits fluids, have buttermilk with roasted jeera, and cut down on maida, deep-fried farsan, excess tea or coffee, alcohol and very spicy pickles while healing.

હરસ, ફિશર અને કબજિયાત માટે શાકાહારી આહાર ચાર્ટ — છાપીને ફ્રિજ પર લગાવો.

Cut down while healing

Foods that make it worse

Maida

Pav, bakery biscuits, white bread, noodles.

Deep-fried farsan

Fafda, gathiya and bhajiya, especially daily.

Too much tea or coffee

More than 2 cups a day dries the stool.

Very spicy food

Chilli and pickles can increase burning in fissure.

Don't wait if you notice

See a doctor soon for heavy bleeding, dark or black stool, fever with pain and swelling, weight loss, or a change in bowel habit lasting more than a few weeks, especially after age 40. These need an examination, not a kit. Pregnant patients and anyone with a fistula should always consult the doctor first.

Questions people ask

Piles & fissure diet chart: common questions

How much water should I drink for piles?

About 2.5–3 litres a day for most adults, unless your doctor has restricted fluids for heart or kidney problems.

Is curd good for piles?

Buttermilk (chaas) is gentler and usually preferred; curd at night is often avoided in Ayurveda.

Is ghee good for piles and fissure?

A small amount of ghee with meals helps soften stool for many people. Specialised medicated cow ghee colon therapy is a separate treatment given as the doctor prescribes.

How long should I follow this diet?

At least 6 weeks for a fissure, and ideally as a lifelong habit to stop piles coming back.
