Fissure pain in Gandhinagar? It can calm down.

A fissure is a small tear at the anal opening. It feels like passing glass: sharp cutting pain during stool, burning that lasts for minutes or hours afterwards, and a little bright red blood. Most fresh fissures heal in a few weeks once stool is soft and the muscle spasm relaxes.

Signs to look for

What it usually feels like

Cutting pain during stool

Often the worst part. Many people start avoiding the toilet, which makes stool harder.

Burning afterwards

A spasm of the anal muscle that can last from a few minutes to a few hours.

Bright red streak

On the stool or paper, usually small.

A small skin tag

A 'sentinel pile' at the edge suggests a fissure that has been there for a while.

Acute or chronic?

Acute fissure (under about 6 weeks) usually heals with diet, sitz baths and local care. Chronic fissure has hard edges, a skin tag and keeps returning; it may need a short procedure such as laser or sphincter treatment after examination.

Our approach

Herbal care first. Surgery only when it's needed.

  1. Free ANOcheck™. Tells you whether this looks like a fissure, piles or something that needs a visit first.
  2. SIT EASY™ Fissure care kit. Dr. Patel's SIT EASY™ malam (Fissure label), sitz bath, gentle laxative and a fissure diet and toilet routine.
  3. Specialised medicated 100% cow ghee colon therapy. Anuvasana, in Shuddhi and Sampann kits, to soften stool and soothe the spasm, given as the doctor prescribes.
  4. Laser fissure treatment. Only for chronic fissure that doesn't heal. Day-care.

Don't wait if you notice

See a doctor soon for heavy bleeding, dark or black stool, fever with pain and swelling, weight loss, or a change in bowel habit lasting more than a few weeks, especially after age 40. These need an examination, not a kit. Pregnant patients and anyone with a fistula should always consult the doctor first.

Questions people ask

Fissure: common questions

Why does a fissure hurt so much?

The tear sits in skin that has many nerve endings, and the anal muscle tightens around it in spasm. Relaxing that spasm with warm sitz baths and soft stool is what lets it heal.

How long does a fissure take to heal?

A fresh fissure often improves in 1–2 weeks and heals in 4–6 weeks with care. If it is still there after 6–8 weeks, it is considered chronic and should be examined.

Can a fissure come back?

Yes, if constipation and straining return. Keeping the diet and toilet routine for a few months is the best prevention.

Is fissure the same as piles?

No. Piles are swollen cushions and usually bleed without much pain. A fissure is a tear and is typically very painful. Some people have both.
