Constipation care

Hard stools and straining are the most common start of piles and fissures. Fix the bowel habit and most anorectal problems get easier to treat.

What counts as constipation?

Passing stool fewer than 3 times a week, hard or lumpy stools, straining, or a feeling that the bowel hasn't emptied fully. Many people have it for years and think it's normal.

Common causes

See a doctor soon if you have

Sit the right way

Toilet posture with a footstool
A small footstool (about 15–20 cm) raises the knees and straightens the passage, so you strain less.

How we treat it

Modern care

Check for an underlying cause, fibre and fluid targets, a toilet routine, stool softeners when needed, and pelvic-floor guidance. We avoid long-term use of harsh laxatives.

Ayurveda

Vibandha is managed by correcting Agni (digestion) and Vata through diet timing, warm fluids, gentle herbal support and daily routine (Dinacharya).

Don't stay on laxatives from the chemist for months without advice. Long use can make the bowel lazier.
